Senior Data Engineer / Data Conversion Lead
Location: Hybrid
Compensation: $60-72/hr on contract, $120,000 – $140,000 Conversion salary

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer / Data Conversion Lead to support large-scale modernization and data migration initiatives. This individual will serve as a technical leader responsible for designing, building, and optimizing the data conversion architecture that powers enterprise migration efforts.
The ideal candidate combines strong data engineering expertise with practical experience supporting complex conversion projects. They understand how to architect data movement, transformation, validation, and cleansing processes while partnering closely with analysts, business stakeholders, and development teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable ETL/ELT processes supporting enterprise data conversions.
- Build and maintain data pipelines using Microsoft Azure technologies and related tools.
- Design transformation strategies and conversion architectures for complex migration initiatives.
- Partner with Data Analysts to define mapping, validation, and reconciliation approaches.
- Support movement of data across relational, NoSQL, and object storage platforms.
- Architect and manage data lake and data warehouse solutions.
- Optimize data movement processes for performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Establish standards for data transformation, cleansing, and validation.
- Document architecture decisions, technical designs, and conversion strategies.
- Collaborate with architects, SMEs, analysts, and development teams throughout the conversion lifecycle.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or data migration initiatives.
- Strong SQL Server expertise.
- Experience building and supporting large-scale data migration or conversion solutions.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory or similar ETL platforms.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake, or similar technologies.
- Strong understanding of database design, data modeling, and data architecture.
- Experience working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
- Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading enterprise-scale conversion or modernization projects.
- Experience with Cosmos DB or other NoSQL platforms.
- Knowledge of KQL, Azure Monitor, or Azure Data Explorer.
- Exposure to Databricks, Azure Machine Learning, or advanced analytics platforms.
- Experience mentoring junior analysts and engineers.
